Creating a Route Using the Directions Tab

After locating the desired area on the map, you can use EarthaMapsä to create a route.

You can set a Route Start and Route Finish by using either the map or the Directions tab.

To set a Route Start and Finish using the Directions tab:

1.    At the bottom of the map display screen, click the Directions tab to display the Enter Your Start and Enter Your Finish text headings.

2.    Under the Enter Your Start text designated by the Route Start symbol image\newstart.gif , select the search criteria you want to use (Placename, Street Address, ZIP Code, Area Code and Exchange, or Latitude/Longitude) in the Search By drop-down box.

3.    Enter the item you want to find (for example, street address, city, coordinates, etc.) into the Search For text box.

4.    Under the Enter Your Finish text designated by the Route Finish symbol image\newfinish.gif , select the search criteria you want to use (Placename, Street Address, ZIP Code, Area Code and Exchange, or Latitude/Longitude) in the Search By drop-down box.

5.    Enter the item you want to find (for example, street address, city, coordinates, etc.) into the Search For text box.

6.    Click the Search button under each entry to check your start and finish locations on the map.

§    If EarthaMaps is unable to find an exact match for your start or finish criteria, a list of the closest matches appears within the Please Choose list box. Select the desired item and then click the View button to view the map.

§    If none of the items match the desired start or finish location you want, click the Change My Start or Change My Finish button to begin a new search.

7.    If your start and finish destinations are correct, click the Create Route button.

If EarthaMaps finds an exact match, the calculated route appears on the map between the Route Start and Route Finish symbols.

8.    Click the Start Over button to create a different route.

NOTE:

Your new directions appear under the Directions heading. Directions include Route Start and Route Finish, length, time, and type of route calculated, and the number of itinerary points. A text box shows directions within numbered itinerary points.

TIP:

For your search, once you have entered your start and finish destinations with the Search For text box, you may also click on the Create Route button to generate a route without first searching for the start and finish locations on the map.
